Triplet energies of pi-conjugated polymers.
Using pulse radiolysis and triplet energy transfer has enabled us to measure the triplet energies in a broad range of different pi-conjugated polymers. In all cases we find that the 1 (3)B(u) is of order 0.6 to 1 eV below the 1 (1)B(u), indicative of localized triplet states with strong electron-electron correlation. We also observe that the 1 (1)A(g)-1 (3)B(u) gap decreases linearly as the 1 (...
متن کاملGroundstate dispersion interaction between pi-conjugated polymers.
The line-dipole approximation is used to investigate the scaling of the groundstate dispersion interaction, EW, between parallel conjugated polymers of length L and transverse separation D. Both a second-order perturbation theory calculation using the Mott-Wannier exciton model of excited states and a semiclassical analysis of distributed dipoles indicate that at L approximately D there is a cr...
متن کاملBiomolecular calculations based on electron-correlated fragment molecular orbital methods
Kitaura et al. [1] have proposed an ab initio FMO method by which large molecules such as proteins and nucleic acids can be easily treated with chemical accuracy. In the ab initio FMO method, a molecule or a molecular cluster is divided into fragments, and the MO calculations on the fragments (monomers) and the fragment pairs (dimers) are performed to obtain the total energy that is expressed a...
متن کاملQuantum Molecular Dynamics Simulations of Conjugated Polymers
The softness of conjugated polymers leads to strong coupling between polymer’s electrons and lattice vibrations. Therefore, it is necessary to perform quantum molecular dynamics computer simulations in order to study their electronic and optical properties at molecular level. We have used self-consistent molecular dynamics calculations with inter-atomic forces evaluated from quantum mechanical ...
متن کاملMolecular Orbital Calculations of Cu-Halides
An ab initio HF MO theory is applied to CuX, CuX2 (X = F and Cl) and (CuCl)3. Although the detailed sequence of energy levels depends upon the basis set used, high-lying orbital energy levels have largely halogen p-like character, whereas low-lying orbital energy levels have largely Cu 3 d-like character. This is in agreement with the chemical intuition of a highly ionic character of these comp...
